GUWAHATI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Arun Singh today announced the final list of 17 candidates who will be contesting the polls in the third and final phase of polling on April 6 next.
"The BJP will in a total contest in 92 Seats. The candidates who will be contesting the rest of the Seats will be from the other alliance partners," Singh said, adding that there is a "lot of excitement" in Assam over the saffron party's choice of candidates.
As per the list released by Singh, Assam Industries and Commerce Minister Chandramohan Patowary shall be contesting the polls from his home Constituency of Dharmapur. He represented the Dharmapur constituency from the 1985-1990,1991-1996,1996-2001,2006-2011,2016-till date and served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly from 2006-2011.

Bijni -- Ajay Kumaar Roy
Dudhnai -- Shyamjit Rabha
Jaleswar -- Osman Goni
Sorbhog -- Sankar Chandra Das
Baghbar -- Hassinara Khatun
Palasbari -- Hemang Thakuria
Dispur -- Atul Bora

Most of the Constituencies that will head to the polls in the third phase are in the Lower Assam region, where the Congress and its ally All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) hold major sway.
The 2021 Assam Legislative Assembly election is the 15th quinquennial legislative assembly election scheduled to be held in Assam from March 27 to April 6 in three phases, to elect 126 MLAs to the 15th Assam Legislative Assembly.
