GUWAHATI: BJP candidates Sushanta Borgohain and Rupjyoti Kurmi seal spot for Thowra and Mariani constituencies respectively for Assam by polls.
Borgohai won the seat with 53280 and won by 29931 votes while Kurmi managed to gather 55555 votes.
It is noteworthy that both were earlier were members of Congress.
The ruling BJP and its allies have been leading in the rest of the three constituencies as well.
Bhawanipur witnesses BJP candidate Phanidhar Talukdar rleading by 27209 votes.
UPPL takes lead in both Tamulpur and Gossaigaon constituencies Jolen Daimary leading by 31968 votes and Jiron Bosumotari leading by 27287 votes respectively.
Before the results BJP candidate for Thowra Sushanta Borgohain has said that the people of the constituency tagged him as a
Raijor Dal tried to create an atmosphere and portray me a traitor for switching to BJP from Congress.
"The party tagged me a traitor but I am glad to see that the people of Thowra have considered me trustworthy", said Sushanta Borgohain.
"We may have betrayed but that was for necessary for progress of the people", he added.
While speaking on polls, Rupjyoti Kurmi had earlier anticipated that after joining the ruling party some of his enemies might have turned into well-wishers for the decision he had taken.
