GUWAHATI: Kaliabor Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi is very likely to contest the ensuing elections in the state from his late father Tarun Gogoi's Titabor Constituency, reports said.
The formal announcement in this regard is expected to be made in the evening today, sources have informed us.
The party has said that it will consult former chief minister Tarun Gogoi's family members before deciding on a nominee for the Titabor seat which was held by him for four consecutive terms before his death.
The Congress party last night released a list of 40 candidates that will contest the post, half of whom are fresh candidates. The list has the names of 20 new faces and six sitting MLAs including Congress Legislature Party leader Debabrata Saikia in Nazira.
Apart from Titabor, the names of candidates for Tinsukia, Dhakuakhana, Behali, Dhing and Bokakhat and AIUDF- held Naoboicha are yet to be announced.

Gaurav, who contested the Indian general elections 2014 and 2019 from Kaliabor seat and won, is a potential chief minister candidate from the Congress side. He is also a close aide of the former Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
The Congress is fighting its first major election in the state without a face for the post of the chief minister, following the death of former CM Tarun Gogoi, who passed away 23 November of 2020 due to post COVID-19 complications.
