GUWAHATI: The ruling BJP and its allies are leading all the 5 constituencies in the state of Assam.

In Mariani BJP candidate Rupjyoti Kurmi is leading by 35138 votes while Sushanta Borgohain, also of the BJP fold, marching ahead  with 30044 votes for Thowra.

Bhawanipur witnesses BJP candidate Phanidhar Talukdar rleading by 27209 votes.

UPPL takes lead in both Tamulpur and Gossaigaon constituencies Jolen Daimary leading by 31968 votes and Jiron Bosumotari leading by 27287 votes respectively.

Elated with his lead in the counting, BJP candidate for Thowra Sushanta Borgohain has said that the people of the constituency tagged him as a

Raijor Dal tried to create an atmosphere and portray me a traitor for switching to BJP from Congress.

"The party tagged me a traitor but I am glad to see that the people of Thowra have considered me trustworthy", said Sushanta Borgohain.

"We may have betrayed but that was for necessary for progress of the people", he added.

The polls witnessed a cumulative voter turnout of 74.04 per cent of which the highest count at 78 per cent was recorded at Bhabanipur assembly seat

Gossaigaon resgistered a voter turnout of 77.37 per cent followed by Tamulpur 67.88 per cent.

77.56 per cent was recorded at Thowra and a 71.70 per cent turnout at Mariani seat.

The polling took place on 30th October in Gossaigaon, Bhabanipur, Tamulpur, Mariani and Thowra assembly segments, with strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols.
