Assam prisoners’ sentences remitted

Guwahati (Assam), September 27, 2018:

As a part of the commemoration of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Assam government has decided to remit sentences of 20 prisoners under certain categories.

The prisoners whose sentences have been remitted are: Sachin Nayak, Suresh Majhi, Sunil Debnath, Suljina Dhan and Biren Gogoi from Central Jail, Dibrugarh; Konbhai Gogoi from Central Jail Jorhat; Nasir Ali from District Jail, Barpeta; Bikash Sarmah, Hareswar Gogoi, Radhe Orang, Indrajit Rajkhowa and Amar Kumar Hazarika from District Jail, Golaghat; Siralu Tapno from Central Jail, Tezpur; Hekmot Ali from Central Jail, Nagaon; Rajdeo Lodhi and Rajen Sarma from District Jail, Tinsukia; Hemlal Katel, Tarun Basumatary, Sanjib Basumatary and Anjan Tantubai from District Jail, Dhemaji.

These prisoners have been accorded approval for their release in the first phase with effect from October 2, 2018.
