The employees of the Nagaon Paper Mill, one of the two units of the Hindustan Paper Corporation lodged a protest against the government today. The emplo raised the protest against the government’s failure to meet their needs. The protestors stated that the government had earlier promised to clear their dues and allowances by 10th of April.But no advances has been made by the government till now.
They staged the protest saying that they are facing unbearable financial hardships, while some are facing starvation. They also called for the revival of the mill.
The Nagaon and Cachar mills were dividend-paying and profit-making units till their closure in 2015, affecting around two lakh people. The mills became inoperative owing to the dearth of bamboo.
The employers warned that the agitation will grow violent if he the government does not clear their dues by today itself.
