Assam Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary taking cognizance of today’s violence in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts urged the people not to believe in rumours. He termed today’s incident as very unfortunate. He also said that peace prevailed BTAD for past several years but rumour mongering among the people led some organizations call a bandh today. The senior leader said that BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary and the Principal Secretary of Bodoland Territorial Council(BTC) have already clarified that the Council never decided to take away the land rights of the Non-Bodos living in the BTAD region. In the past few days people have been facing problem due to late transfer of land but eventually it was misinterpreted by a section of people that Non-Bodos would lose land rights. In a recent council meeting of the BTC the matter of land transferring from tribal to non-tribal was discussed. The MP on behalf of the BPF also clarified that the BTC has not taken any decision on land policy in the BTAD and the existing Assam Land Revenue and Regulation Act 1886 still persists and according to the act only the protected class will have the land rights but question of tribal or non-tribal having land rights does not arise. He also said that the land belonging to non-tribals is as safe as the land belonging to the tribal in the BTAD.
