GUWAHATI: Assam’s COVID-19 tally today went up to 2,83,313 as the state reported this year’s highest single-day spike of 5,626 fresh cases.
Kamrup (M) district recorded the highest number of 1,551 new cases, followed by Kamrup 474, Dibrugarh 453 and Nagaon district 294.
The positivity rate currently stands at 8.24 per cent.
On the other hand, 47 new fatalities pushed the state’s coronavirus death toll to 1,578, while 1,347 patients have died so far due to other reasons.
The death rate in the state now stands at 0.56 per cent.
Kamrup (Metro) reported 15 deaths, Dibrugarh eight, Cachar and Golaghat three each, Barpeta, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur and Udalguri two each, while Baksa, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Hojai, Jorhat, Kamrup and Karimganj districts recorded one death each.
The state now has 34,146 active cases, while 2,46,242 people have recovered from the disease so far, including 3,262 today, taking the recovery rate among the coronavirus patients to 86.92 per cent.

Assam tested a total of 68,318 samples today taking the total COVID-19 tests conducted in the state to 89,75,466.
A total of 22.76 lakh people have been administered the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 6.41 lakh people have received the second dose.
