Assam reports zero COVID deaths for the first time since July 7

Guwahati: The COVID-19 virus has left a trail of death in every nook and cranny of India and Assam has been no exception. However, things are finally starting to look better as not a single death from the virus was reported on Wednesday (November 4). The lack of COVID deaths on July 7 shall come as a major confidence booster to the people of the state who have been living in dread of the virus ever since it landed on our shores.

Making the announcement on Twitter, Good News - Almost for 115 days in a row we have had to endure painful incidents of death of #COVID19 patients in Assam. I am pleased to share that today on November 4, there is NO death case. We've to keep our vigil on and follow all precautions to contain the pandemic."

In an address to the press last week, Sarma had said that the number of COVID deaths in Assam has not gone down due to late reporting by the patients. However, the COVID-19 positivity rate has nosedived completely.

Sarma said that the state now has 8,110 active cases, and added that the death toll has remained unchanged at 934.

It needs mention here that Assam has reported coronavirus deaths daily since July 7. The current death rate is 0.45 per cent. Notably, the state began reporting its biggest spikes of COVID and stringent lockdowns became the order of the day.

That Assam has reported zero COVID-19 related deaths will come as a major relief to the people as the virus is expected to take a heavy toll during winters.

With prospects of a winter boom in COVID infections looming large, Guwahati residents are once again starting to worry with the air quality in the city starting to degrade after the resumption of regular economic activities.

The AQI in Guwahati has now risen to 103, which is categorized as “moderate” by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). This is especially worrying for patients suffering from the COVID-19 virus, who suffer from breathing problems.
