Hailakandi, April 18, 2020:

The administration of Hailakandi, Assam, has suspended the retail licence of two fair price shop agents namely Abul Kalam Barbhuiya and Azadur Rahman Barbhuiya under Mohonpur GPSS Limited on the ground that their businesses were run by "unauthorised" persons for the last two months.

Meanwhile, in view of lockdown, the district administration has streamlined the process of delivery of chicken, fish, milk, eggs and vegetables to the people at their doorstep.

The Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department has been making home deliveries of chicken, milk and eggs to the people of the district.

District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer, RA Laskar said, "The department is making delivery of chicken, eggs and milk to the people at their doorstep. Apart from this, cattle feed is also being provided to the diary farmers."

The Fisheries department has been making delivery of local fish to the people at their doorsteps. "1,268 kgs of fish have been distributed to around 2,507 families through 35 hawkers", said District Fisheries Officer, Tapan Kumar Sinha.

Vegetables procured locally by the Agriculture department are being delivered at the people's doorstep. Subdivisional Agriculture Officer, Dr.AR Ahmed said, "Arrangements are being done to make door-to-door delivery of fresh vegetables procured from the local farmers through selected hawkers."

Dr Ahmed disclosed that under the Pradhan Mantri Kishan Samman Nidhi, 77,118 beneficiaries at Rs.2000 each and 14,280 under the Mukhya Mantrir Krishi Sa Sajuli Yojana (MMKSSY) at Rs 2500 each have benefitted during the lockdown period.

Sanitisation is being carried out by the Fire and Emergency Services personnel at the containment zone, market places, streets and offices, the administration has clarified.

The health authorities here informed 1,620 persons are under home quarantine with seven more quarantined on Saturday. Of the 139 swab samples taken, 128 tested negative, including four on Saturday.
