21 July 2018:

In what is seen as a relief to people, the rising temperature in Assam started falling from Saturday, said an official of Borjhar-based Regional Meteorological Centre.

The temperature at several places on Friday had soared as high as 38 degree Celsius. There was some respite on Saturday following showers in the capital city and some other places.

“Though it is a monsoon season and at present, there is a low pressure system going on over the Northeast and West Bengal and for that, all the moistures cut out from the day. We are not getting any significant activity which was a primary factor for the rising temperature”, the official said.

“Due to lack of rainfall activity and unfavourable synoptic situation, there was a rise in day temperature,” he added.

In the wake of hot weather conditions in recent days, people in Guwahati were seen drinking coconut water, sugarcane juice and soft drinks to beat the heat.
