GUWAHATI: Section 144 has been imposed in parts of Guwahati since January 21,2021. The order was issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajveer.
Section 144 has been imposed in the entire Central Police District, Guwahati which covers areas under Paltanbazar, Panbazar, Latasil, Chandmari, Geetanagar, Pragjyotishpur, Noonmati and Satgaon Police Station.
The order was issued after concerns of disturbance by unspecified persons or groups to the normal functioning of offices, movement of public and flow of traffic in parts of Central Police District, Guwahati, breaching peace and public order.

"From time to time, we impose the Section 144 to dissuade unlawful activities. It is a routine practice that is implemented every 3 month," Munna Prasad Gupta, the Police Commissioner of Guwahati, told Inside Northeast.
Section 144 prohibits assembly of more than 5 (five) persons, agitation, demonstration, rally, procession, mashal procession and shouting slogans.
