Lumpi, which falls under the Boko constituency in Assam's Kamrup district, has been witnessing interstate border problems since February 19. Lumpi VDP secretary Sambhu Chetry informed that the Police personnel opened fire immediately after warning them to leave the spot, following which, the team informed the Lower Lumpi Border Police Outpost.
Platoon commander D. Singh of the 4th Assam Battalion, along with a team, reached the firing site after the Meghalaya Police personnel had left the area and recovered the fired bullet cartridge.

On further enquiry at the Meghalaya state border outpost, it has been learnt that the personnel's name is Wandronaph Kharbani (36).
Jogendra Barman, OC Boko Police Station said, "At the wee hours yesterday, Constable Wandronaph threatened them with a pistol and then escaped the scene. We have recovered the empty cartridge from the spot."
DSP Pathak and his team met with the Ialamlad Kharkongor, Sub divisional police officer (SDPO) of Mawshynrut, West Khasi Hills district, who informed that Kharbani's arms had already been handed over to Nongstoin Police Station in West Khasi Hills District.
A case has been registered against him in Meghalaya. Another case has been registered against Kharbani in Boko. It may be mentioned here that Lumpi is considered disputed.
