Six hardcore militants belonging to the National Democratic Front of Boroland, Sangbijit faction (NDFB-S) were apprehended by the security forces on September 30 in Kokrajhar district of Assam. The cadres of the proscribed organization were nabbed at the Ripu Reserve Forest of Kokrajhar during a joint operation of the Indian army and Assam police.
Indian Army troops laid multiple ambushes on receiving intel about the presence of the cadres in the area. In the intervening night of 30 Sep /01 October 19, the ambush party noticed six individuals moving suspiciously in the area, after which the forces nabbed them after a short pursuit.
The cadres soon revealed that they were hardcore NDFB(S) cadres trained in Myanmar. They have been identified Bahaigya Basumatary alias Belarwm, Self Styled Cultural Secretary and Deputy Finance Secretary of 39th Batch NDFB(S), Ranjolal Wary @ Gobla @ W Raithab of 42nd Batch NDFB(S), Rubiram Goyary alias G Rwmwgwmw of 40th NDFB(S), Julesh Musharay alias M Jujilang of 42nd Batch NDFB(S), Sailen Borgoyary alias B Sibithao of 42nd Batch NDFB(S), and Rajesh Narzary alias N Railang of 42nd Batch NDFB(S).
On further questioning, the apprehended cadres revealed the location of a temporary camp site close to the spot of apprehension. The troops immediately moved to the camp site and conducted a thorough search. This led to the recovery of one M16 Assault Rifle, six 7.65 mm pistols, twelve magazines, ammunition, medicines, rations, along with several other war like and administrative stores.
Sporadic inputs about presence of this group were being received from reliable sources of the Army for approximately three months. Relentless efforts were therefore directed towards nabbing these cadres.
These six militants belong to the handful of NDFB(S) cadres who continue to be active in the forested areas of BTAD and are evading the Security Forces. Out of the six cadres who were apprehended, three belong to Kokrajhar district in Assam, while three are from Chirang district in Assam.
