Assam Social Worker Distributes Free Fish to the Needy on Bhogali Bihu

Guwahati, January 14, 2019:

A prominent social-worker from Assam, Somen Deka, earned the goodwill of the people for distributing free fish to the poor and needy on the auspicious occasion of Bihu.

People for far and near visited Deka's residence at Mathghoria in Guwahati city early in the morning as the local social worker and businessman delighted the people with his gift of free fish on the occasion of Bihu.

Small kids were seen grinning from ear-to-ear in thrill as they held the fish distributed by the businessman, who has been distributing free fish for 17 years.

Meanwhile, as the Bhogali Bihu fever has gripped Assam, the markets across the State, especially Guwahati’s iconic “big fish market” at the Uzan Bazar ghaat, has witnessed moderate footfall as Guwahatians have splurged big in the lead up to the grand feasts being organized in every home.

The fish market attracts fish-sellers from disparate locations across Assam, looking to make a quick buck on the day that the prices of the scaly delicacies reach sky-high due to high demand.

The vendors on this particular day reached Uzan Bazar market in the wee hours to get a spot to sit in the market which is adjacent to the mighty Brahmaputa. The vendors revealed to us that they have arrived from as far away as from Mangaldoi, Sualkuchi, Mukalmuwa, Nagaon, Nalbari.
