Assam Student’s Mysterious Death In Ukraine

Guwahati, June 10, 2019:

A second-semester medical student has drowned in Ukraine who hailed from Lal Ganesh area in Guwahati.

The deceased student has been identified as Nikumoni Kakoti. He is the only son of Dhiren Kakoti and Deepanjali Kakoti. Nikumoni was pursuing his education at a medical college in Ukraine.

According to reports, Nikumoni completed his exams and was supposed to visit his hometown on coming Wednesday.

The father of the deceased student have urged the state government and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to look into the matter. He also urged the Chief Minister to help the family to bring the body of the deceased to home for the final cremation.

According to Ukrainian government data, 10,884 Indian students currently study in Ukraine. Most of them opt to study medicine, says Mohan Pandey, an associate with the Ukraine Medical Education Centre, which helps foreign students apply to study medicine in Ukraine.

Currently, Ukraine is the third most popular destination for Indians who want to study medicine abroad after China and Russia.
