Tezpur MP, Ram Prasad Sarma, on Monday alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched against him by some elements within his BJP to prevent him from contesting the Lok Sabha election next year.

“Some of my party colleagues have hatched a conspiracy to ensure that I am not issued ticket to contest in Lok Sabha election. They are doing this as I am a strong supporter of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. They feel that if they can corner me, they will be able to weaken the Chief Minister,” Sarma told INSIDENE.

The Tezpur MP said he would disclose the names of the conspirators in the next few days.

His reaction came following reports that his daughter Pallavi Sarma, a Deputy Superintendent of Police in Sivasagar, was among 19 officers of the state’s civil administration and police summoned by the Dibrugarh Police in connection with the cash-for-jobs scam in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC). Sarma denied the reports saying Pallavi had not received any summons from the police.

It may be mentioned that over 30 officers, who secured plum jobs by allegedly bribing the arrested former chairman of APSC, Rakesh Kumar Paul, are now in judicial custody following their arrest by the police
