Tinsukia, January 22, 2020:

The students of the Tinsukia College and the Women's College in Tinsukia on Wednesday, reiterating their demand for the repealing of the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act, boycotted their classes and demanded the Government to listen to the voices of Assam.

The college students, holding aloft symbolic black flags to condemn the controversial legislation, burned representational copies of the Act to express their resentment. It is worth mentioning here that they were also joined by members of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU), which has been spearheading protests across every nook and cranny of the State.

The members of the Women's College of Tinsukia, which is one of the most prominent institutions of higher-learning in the city, also boycotted their classes and raised their collective voices against the 'jati' (nationhood) destroying CAA.

From the protest grounds, the students warned the Government that no matter how much they try to lure the people and subdue the protest, the student fraternity would not be appeased until and unless the contentious CAA is rolled back by the ruling regime.

It is to be mentioned here that the CJI, heading a bench hearing several petitions against the CAA, has said that Assam and Tripura matters will be clubbed together to be dealt with separately. It has also been reported that the Centre is mulling extending the Inner Line Permit (ILP) to Assam in a bid to quell the mass uprisings across the region.
