Assam Top Cop Charged with Sexual Assault Case of 13-Year-Old Minor

Guwahati, January 5, 2020:

A top cop from Assam has been charged with a sexual assault case in Guwahati for assaulting a 13-year-old minor on 31st night.

Gaurav Upadhyay, an IPS officer, has been accused of sexually assaulting the 13- year-old.

He is currently posted as Superintendent of Police (SP) in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam.

The sexual assault case has been registered at the All Women’s Police Station under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act with case no. 5/20. Guwahati Commissioner of Police has confirmed the case lodged under POCSO.

While speaking with Inside Northeast, the Guwahati Commissioner of Police, Munna Prasad Gupta said, “A case has been registered against Gaurav Upadhyay at All Women’s Police Station and accordingly the investigation is on.”

It may be mentioned here that crime against minors has been increasing at a rapid rate in India. With this sexual assault case by the one who is responsible for protecting people and the public has further posed a serious question on the security of the general public.
