Deputy Superintendent of Police, Hailakandi (headquarters) Nayan Moni Barman has been awarded the Union Home Minister's Medal for Excellence in Investigation for the year 2019.
This was announced through a communiqué issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday.
Nayan Moni Barman has been awarded by the MHA for a swift investigation into the rape and murder of a minor tribal girl that took place at Betcherra under Ramnathpur Police Station along Assam-Mizoram inter-state border on March 14 last year.
Heading the Special Investigation Team (SIT), Barman made swift investigation leading to the arrest of the accused Jashimuddin Borbhuiya. The accused was awarded capital punishment by a fast track court under Sections 302 and 376 IPC read with Section 4 under POCSO Act in a judgment delivered on October 1 last year.
Besides Barman, Superintendent of Police, Shankar Brata Raimedhi and Sub Inspector (UB), Md. Emdadul Hussain of Assam Police are other recipients of the award.
Altogether 96 police officers across the country have been awarded for excellence in investigation by the MHA this year.
