The Assam Government's Tourism department has once again landed in the soup after Tourism Chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah's was seen enjoying the sights of Europe, along with an Assam team promoting tourism, on tax payers' dime.
Nishita Goswami, Barsha Rani Bishaya, and Tanvi Sharma, along with some senior members of Assam Tourism have embarked on a 'road show' in Europe, but the Assam Tourism's gimmicks have drawn flak after some of the top honchos of Assam Tourism were seen enjoying the sights and sounds of Europe, with their wives.
The delegation has been visiting some of the hotspots in European nations like Italy, Spain, and UK in a bid to promote Assam Tourism. In some videos which have been shared on social media, the team from Assam can be seen interacting with the foreigners and having a good time.
It is being alleged that the Assam Tourism's gimmicks in the past have been an abject failure, with even crores spent on box-office draw Priyanka Chopra failing to draw crowds to the State.

The Tourism department has been under the scanner ever since it would announced that the Bollywood diva and international icon Priyanka Chopra would be acting as brand ambassador. However, eyebrows were raised when several crores to visit the state as its ambassador. Later, the gimmick was branded as a 'flop'

Moreover, the 'Assam Tourism' advert starring the Bollywood queen was also severely criticized. Later, after Chopra came under fire from the citizens of Assam for not providing relief during the flood crisis in Assam in 2019, Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma clarified that the Government had severed ties with Chopra, and she was no longer attached to the Tourism Board.
