Guwahati, September 19, 2019:

Assam's Transport Department has changed the bus routes of Panjabari to Jalukbari route to minimize the rising traffic jams due to the construction of an over-bridge in Ganeshguri area of Guwahati city.

The new bus route became operational from Thursday.

As per the new bus route, the city buses will travel from Panjabari-Sixmile-VIP Road- Narengi–Noonmati route to Jalukbari. Earlier, the usual route was from Panjabari-Sixmile-Dispur-Ganeshguri route.

Meanwhile, the Assam Transport Department has allowed usual route while returning from Jalukbari.

Over 80 buses ply on daily basis from Panjabari to Jalukbari in Guwahati.

The new flyover will connect RG Baruah Road with Bishnu Rabha flyover and is expected to reduce traffic congestion by at least 35%. The 476-meter-long flyover arm will be constructed under State Own Priority Scheme-General at a cost of Rs 58.76 crore.

The new flyover is expected to help in easing out traffic congestion at Ganeshguri, near the capital complex, which is one of the busiest commercial junctions of the city. "Our government wants to transform Guwahati and turn it into the gateway to the southeast Asian countries. Keeping that in mind, the Guwahati State Capital Region has been notified.

The flyover is expected to be completed within the next 18 months. The new flyovers connecting Ganesh Mandir to Ganeshguri and GNRC point.
