NEFIP Vice President, Bikram Hanse, who took part in the protest, said, “Exempting the Sixth Scheduled areas of Assam and ILP states was nothing, but just a mere ploy to befool the North-Eastern people.”
He added, “The bill was specifically made for the northeastern region only, so we oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019, tooth-and-nail. If the Centre introduces the Bill, we are ready to go to extreme lengths to protest for our existence.”
It is to be mentioned here that the contentious bill is being discussed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the Lok Sabha. It is expected to be tabled in the Rajya Sabha on December 10.
