Assam: Two Claim Responsibility for Mahur Town Committee Fire

Haflong, September 30, 2019:

Two people have claimed responsibility for the Mahur Town Committee office’s fire incident. The culprits said that they set the office ablaze on the instructions of Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) of Mahur, Rahul Naiding.

Nitesh Hojai and Chanrajit Hagjer claimed responsibility for the incident at a press conference of PA, Chief Executive Member, North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, Sanjit Nunisa. They said that Naiding had ordered them and later they surrendered to the police.

New twist has rolled up in the case of Mahur Town Committee office that was set ablaze by some unidentified miscreants on the night of September 22.

The committee office was set on fire on the night of September 22, following some conspiracy. It was reported a day after the appointment of Anup Langthasa, a BJP member, as the Chairman of Mahur Town Committee.

On the other hand, SP Dima Hasao, Sreejith Thiraviam said, “We have nabbed Jorin Kemprai whom we've taken into judicial custody. We're are investigating the matter and if there is any involvement of any MAC, he will be arrested. We will not think twice. There might be some conspiracy. However, we are yet come up with names. There are two youths but they have not said anything. Some names have come up but not in our investigation.”

Thiraviam added, “If a person is elected as chairman and next day some incidents happen, there must be some conspiracy. When we arrested them, situations were not good so interrogation could not be done properly. Everything will be revealed when we they will be taken into remand.”

It may be mentioned that earlier on September 25 Police got a breakthrough as they received inputs of a youth, identified as Bipin Kemprai who died due to burn injury at Nemcare Hospital Guwahati.

The Dima Hasao police, in collaboration with Guwahati Police, successfully nabbed another youth, identified as Jorin Kemprai who was with the deceased at Guwahati.

The investigation is still on. Moreover, political involvement also has come to light after the two culprits claimed responsibility for the fire incident.
