Assam: Two MLAs miss out on NRC

Two MLAs – Rama Kanta Dewri of BJP and Ananta Kumar Malo of opposition All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) – were among 40 lakh odd people who missed out on the draft National Register of Citizens (NRC).

In fact, Dewri had not applied for inclusion of his name in NRC.

“Only those who had doubts about their citizenship had applied for inclusion of their names in NRC. I am a son of the soil and hence, I didn’t feel like applying for it. It is shameful for the indigenous people to apply for inclusion of their names in NRC,” he said.

The name of AIUDF MLA Ananta Kumar Malo also did not get to NRC list. He was not available for a comment.
