Assam: Two more tests positive for coronavirus, total climbs to 108

Two more persons have been tested positive for coronavirus today taking the total to 108 in Assam. The fresh cases have been reported from the Golaghat district.

The number of recovered cases so far is 41. The active cases are 62 with the death toll increased to 3. The number of migrated has reached 2.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted:

Of the 104 cases, 58 cases are active and 41 have been cured/ discharged while three died.

On May 17 night, three persons were tested positive for the COVID-19. Two of the patients came from Mumbai while one arrived from Bihar while in the morning one 9-year-old was tested positive for the virus in Jorhat. In the evening, one 28-year-old person, who had arrived from Chennai, tested positive for coronavirus in Cachar district. He has been sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

On May 16, four cases – two from Guwahati and one each from Sonitpur and Sivasagar district – were reported in the state.

Meanwhile, Assam recorded third death as a 71-year-old COVID-19 patient passed away at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital today at 11:05 am owing to respiratory distress.

The deceased – Gopindra Chandra Malakar – had a travel history to Mumbai and was suffering from cancer.

Meanwhile, coronavirus has infected nearly 1 lakh people and claimed over 3000 lives across the country so far. With this India has surpassed China’s official figure of 82,933 confirmed coronavirus cases.

In Assam

Kamrup Metro has recorded the highest number of cases of corona positives, followed by Cachar and Golaghat.

Containment zones so far: Following the spread of the virus, there are now 10 designated containment zones. Rajkamal Hotel and encircling area, Fancybazar; Residential area within the campus of Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute, Birubari; Panbazar Railway Colony, Amiya Nagar, Chandmari; GS Colony, Fatasil; Near Kumar Nursing home, Kumarpara; Pubali Path, Santipur; Near Kali Mandir, Rathkhula, Fatasil Ambari; Notun Basti, Go path, Datalpara, Fatasil Ambari, and S.K. Bora Road, Rukminigaon have been converted into containment zones in Guwahati.
