Silchar, February 13, 2020:

Assam University students have been continuing their protest against the authorities since Monday demanding the withdrawal of the rustication of research scholar Milon Das.

The students continued to sit in protest of the authorities’ move to rusticate the ex-student leader for two years on the basis of seven different charges against him.

“This is the second day of our hunger strike here. The authorities are not cooperating with us. They did not even care when one girl’s heath broke down last night. The authorities are trying to shut our protest. The medical in charge has also been directed not to perform duties,” said one of the student protesters.

He informed that the Assam University authorities have suspended bus services for the students and declared holiday for the next three days. “This is completely illegal. They have rusticated him illegally. Yesterday only eleven of us were here in this protest. Today our strength has increased. We want to tell the authorities that no matter how much you try to shut our strike; we will be here,” he added.

The Assam University students said that they would continue their protest until justice is served to Milon Das and the students themselves.

It may be mentioned here that Research Scholar Milon Das was rusticated on February 8 following complaints received by the security officer. Das’ behavior came into question. The complaints were mainly of his misbehavior with the Vice Chancellor.
