The political heatwave has started blowing ahead of the general elections of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in the BTR, Assam. The United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) accused the Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) of indulging in unfair means to win the elections.

President of UPPL, Pramod Boro accused the BPF of striving to use ‘muscle power and money power’ in the ensuing BTC elections leading to occurrence of sporadic unwanted incidents in the region for last few days.

In an exclusive interview with INSIDENE today, Boro, while expressing serious concern over the recent incidents related to attack and murder in Salbari, Baksa, and Gossaigaon, demanded strict action against the miscreants involved in the incidents. He alleged that the BPF party has been trying to create chaos by using muscle and money power in the BTC elections.

Talking about the miserable flood situation across the region, Boro accused the then BPF ruled BTAD administration for not taking any appropriate measures to reduce flood and erosion across the four districts of the BTC council. He further urged the Governor of Assam Jagdish Mukhi to initiate stern action to check flood affected areas and erosion along the rivers in the region.

It may be mentioned that the elections for the BTC were slated to be held on April 4th, 2020 while the counting on April 8th, 2020. The last date of filing the nominations was March 18th, 2020 and the last date of withdrawing the nominations was March 21st, 2020.

But, due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 leading to enforcement of the nationwide lockdown, the elections were deferred. No new date has been declared by the Commission yet.

A total of 23,86,359 electors will exercise franchise in 3077 polling stations across 40 BTC constituencies.

The BTC constituencies are:

Parbatjhora (ST), Guma ( Open), Srirampur (Non ST), Jomduar (ST), Saraibil (ST), Kachugaon (ST), Fakiragram (Non ST), Dotma (ST), Bonorgaon (ST), Deborgaon (ST), Baukhungri (ST), Salakati (ST), Chirang (ST), Chirang Duar (ST), Kajalgaon (ST), Nichima, Subhaijhar (ST), Manosh Serfang (ST), Thuribari (Open), Mothanguri (Open), Salbari (ST), Kakilabari (ST), Dihira (Open), Mushalpur (ST), Baganpara (ST), Darangajuli (ST), Nagrijuli (Non ST), Gaybari (ST), Suklai Serfang (ST), Goreswar (ST), Khwirabari (ST), Bhergaon (ST), Nonwi Serfang (Non ST), Khakling Duar (ST), Mudwibari (Open), Harisinga (ST), Dhanshri (ST), Bhwirabkundu (ST), Pachnoi Serfang (Non ST) and Rowta (ST).
