Guwahati, January 1, 2020:

Young leaders from Universities across Assam came together in Guwahati, the region's largest city and commercial hub, to resolve to continue their fight against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

The students resolved: "We, Young Assam resolve to fight back the government imposed Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019."

Terming the Bill-turned-Act as "essentially divisive and dubious which appears to bifurcate the State's diverse cultural labyrinth and demographic set up along communal lines", the young Assamese leaders resolved to "fight for our Country's sovereign, secular, democratic, socialist structure".

This they seek to achieve through "peaceful and democratic movements affirming equality, liberty and fraternity."

It may be mentioned here that the student fraternity has launched the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act that was passed by the BJP party in December last.
