At least a thousand members of the Assam Youth Congress staged “Jail Bharo” protest event on Saturday demanding the release of its leader Kamrul Islam Choudhury.

With Police personnel detaining a few of the protesters, Youth Congress’ Jail Bharo programme witnessed a massive agitation of the members against the authorities for arresting Kamrul.

It may be mentioned here that Kamrul was arrested on January 23 and was sent to two-day CID custody on January 26. He was charged with public property damage during the violent protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act or CAA in Guwahati in December, 2019. The Youth Congress leader was arrested at the Dispur Police station.
Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi was also present at the Jail Bharo Andolan.
