Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, Biswajit Daimary has stirred a controversy by saying that the Assamese people is alive only on television. People are seen on television eating delicacies during Magh Bihu which reflects as if there is no poor people in Assam. At the same time he also said that the Assamese people should know their roots, their culture and their language. As of now it has become very important to know the value of being an ‘Axomiya’. He further added that Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev is the first person to introduce the culture of Assam in the form of Bhaona, Borgeet and many more. He led the culture in a very disciplined manner giving richness and diversity to it. The people of Assam should think and research about their roots and make it culturally rich.
Further he said that the Assamese people lack in proving their identity by producing documents whereas the Bangladeshis who came in before 1971 were declared as inhabitants of Assam as they possess all the required valid documents.
