The Assamese movie 'Bornodi Bhotiyai' that portrays the soul and ambience of river island Majuli, is getting a great response all over the state after its release on May 3.
Ending the wait for a good and meaningful Assamese movie, the latest offering 'Bornodi Bhotiyai' from the Assamese film industry has depicted the river island with an aura of its own.
People of the state have received the film warmly and are uploading reviews across social media platforms expressing their satisfaction after watching the movie.
A former student of the National School of Drama Anupam Kaushik Borah has brought Majuli to life with his debut feature 'Bornodi Bhotiai' which is a two-hour long tragi-comedy which depicts the lives of a number of young men and women from Majuli.
There is an element of magic in this film as it celebrates friendship, love and the souls of Majuli. Borah gives soul to the everyday stories of a small village through an ingenious combination of genres highlighting those aspects of the lives of local peoples which often go unnoticed.
The cast of the movie has an impressive line-up as it featured seasoned thespians such as Kenny Basumatary, who is playing the leading role, Dorothi Bhardwaj, Rajib Nath, Himanshu Gogoi, Kaushik Nath, Sonmoni Sarma, and Manisha Bhuyan. It also features 105 Majuli locals.
The plot is about a young girl Moukan, who earns a fearsome reputation in the village after a man who she says should be dead promptly drops dead before her because of a fatal sneeze.
The movie ‘Bornodi Bhotiai’ has already won accolades of film buffs at the ‘Jio MAMI Film Festival 2018’ and ‘Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival 2018.
