Assam’s Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday announced that the salary of 12,860 muster roll and casual employees would be increased in 52 departments.
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Sarma said the state government had decided to upgrade the pay of muster roll and casual employees to regular pay scale of Grade IV employees. As such, those who are working as casual employees with a salary of Rs.3,000 to Rs.4,000 would receive a salary of Rs.18,000 per month. This will include Rs.12,000 basic pay, Rs.3.900 grade pay and Rs.600 dearness allowance. Further, increment of three per cent will be given to these employees.
For this, Sarma said, the state government would spend Rs.1.76 crore annually. Along with this, the government has also plans to provide health and medical insurance to these employees.
The Minister said those who joined as casual workers prior to 2005 would be mostly benefited. He clarified that although the appointment to Grade-IV posts had been stopped, the departments could create many new posts.
