Assam’s Krishty Saikia quizzes the PM about 'generation gap' with parents; Modi responds

GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged parents to work toward reducing the generation gap between their children and themselves.

Assam's Krishty Saikia, a class 10 student at Kendriya Vidyalaya, IIT Guwahati, interacted with PM Modi during Pariksha Pe Charcha, when she raised an important point about the generation gap between parents and their children.

“Being of the new generation, we still want to reduce the generation gap between our parents and ourselves,” she asked PM Modi. “How are we going to do it?”

In response to her question, PM Modi urged all parents to become more involved in their children's lives in order to help close the generation gap between them and their children.

He urged parents to work to resolve the generation gap between themselves and their children. “Establish a relationship with your children and learn about their likes and dislikes. Involving yourself in their environment would bridge the generation gap, and they will value your perspective,” Prime Minister Modi said.

“Remember, when your child was a year old, how did you speak to him?” the prime minister asked. What kind of sounds did you make to make him laugh back then? How you used to communicate with him using facial expressions.

Have you ever considered what people could suggest if they see you doing this? You did so because you liked it at the time. You did not care about anybody, so you gave up everything and became a child.”
