Guwahati, March 9, 2019: Atul Bora

Atul Bora 's dual stand: The rumors of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have continued doing the rounds in Assam’s political circles.

Adding fuel to the controversy is a nameplate at the Assam Secretariat which reads: “Atul Bora, Minister Agriculture, Horticulture &Food Processing, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Town & Country Planning, Assam, Dispur”. This is indeed baffling as the AGP leader submitted his resignation to the Chief Minister amid the ruckus over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Moreover, the AGP leader continues to enjoy the comforts of the quarter of Minister’s Colony enjoying all the facilities and securities allotted to a working minister of the State Government.

As per internal sources, the AGP is likely to come into alliance with the BJP soon ahead of the Lok Sabha election 2019 and there have also been reports alleging that Atul Bora is meeting BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav in a secret meeting.

Meanwhile, the BJP has made it clear that it will bring the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 if voted into power which implies that by joining the BJP, the AGP is indirectly supporting the Bill which will ensure that the struggles of the people to oppose the Bill will come to nothing.
