The Bangladeshi Assistant High Commission here observed Bangladesh’s National Mourning Day and 43rd death anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Thursday.
A discussion program focusing on the struggling political career of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was organised at the chancery premise of the Assistant High Commission. Messages received from President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh on the occasion of National Mourning Day were recited and a special prayer was offered for the departed soul of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members who were brutally killed on the day in 1975 by a group of renegade army officers of Bangladesh. Also, a one-minute of silence was observed in remembrance of India’s former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Holy versus were recited on the occasion from the Geeta, Quran and Bible on the occasion.
Around 50 Bangladeshi students studying in different universities of Assam attended the programme.
Assistant High Commissioner Dr Shah Mohammad Tanvir Monsur chronicled the success stories of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which he termed as the main cause for the defeated groups of liberation war to become jealous. He mentioned that it was an international conspiracy where communal and vested interest groups played the main role in plotting the heinous killing of 15 August 1975.
Among others, Byatikram Masdo president Dr Saumen Bharatiya and Professor Usharanjan Bhattacharya spoke on the occasion.
The programme was followed by a dinner, stated a press release.
