January, August 18, 2019:

A weather balloon flown from Bangladesh on Friday fell in a bordering village of Tripura, Banbazar, that falls under the Champahaur police station of Teliamura. BSF told mediapersons today that the balloon fell due to 'technical glitches', however, anxious locals fear that it might be a precursor to an impending attack by the neighboring country.

Sudden fall of the balloon attached with a seemingly 'high-tech gadget' caused tension in the locality, and Banbazar locals feared that it could be an explosive item.

However, the BSF people ruled out any possibility of explosives and said that it was a routine exercise carried out by almost every ecological department.

"The balloon has been flown from Bangladesh. Due to some technical issues, it flattened and fell here in Banbazar area, a bordering area. Soon after, people spotted it swinging from a tree, crowd started gathering and started speculating of some international threat”, a BSF official told us over the phone.

The official who wanted to remain anonymous also informed us that a team of BSF went to the site and inspected the balloon.

“A team of our personnel went there and investigated whether there is any threat or not. But nothing suggested that it could be a threat” he added, saying that the gadget that locals said was "tricky" was nothing but a instrument used for measuring humidity and other weather parameters.

However, despite the BSF's assurances, a huge crowd gathered at the spot and kept on alleging that it might be a instrument to record geographical data of the region so that it could be further used for some sort of attack.
