DHUBRI: Block Development Officer of Gauripur Development Block, Khabir Uddin Ahmed, and accountant of the block Akhirul Islam have been arrested today by Dhubri police over an FIR alleging gross misappropriation of government funds.
The FIR registered as Dhubri Police Station case No: 1097/21, filed by CEO of Zila Parishad under sections 120B, 406, 420, 468,471 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The FIR states that during an investigation, he discovered anomalies in payment of a bill of Rs 52.72 lakhs under Gauripur Development Block, establishing misappropriation of Rs 10 lakhs payment by making false bill vouchers.

The Complaint also states that corrupt officials were trying to withdraw an amount of Rs 2.03 crore by uploading the Bills in MIS against incomplete work of erosion protection taken up under Gauripur Development Block.
The duo was taken to court today, and while they were not the named accused, their name came up during the investigation, informed police.
The arrested persons had been sent for judicial custody.
It needs to be mentioned that in the last week of August, two engineers from the Assam Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) Department were arrested by Dhubri police from an undisclosed area of West Bengal on suspicion of misappropriation of funds by the then CEO of Zila Parishad and Project Director, DRDA, Dhubri Animesh Talukdar.
