Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha Reiterates 'Gorkhaland' Statehood Demand

Dehradun, August 27, 2019:

The 20th National Executive Meet of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh was held on 26 August at Dehradun alongside the Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha's Platinum Jubilee Martyrdom of Amar Shaheed Durga Malla at the ONGC Auditorium, organised in association with Uttarakhand Rajyik Nepali Bhasa Samittee, and Gorkhali Sudhar Sabha.

More than 100 delegates from all over India participated in the meet. In the first session, the National Working President, Dr. Munish Tamang, talked about the organisation's work for the Gorkha community especially in the context of NRC in Assam, Manipur People's Bill, and PRC in Arunachal Pradesh.

At the end of the deliberations, Dr. Munish Tamang, National Working President Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh called said that the Union Government must demonstrate the same political will as it did in the matter of J&K and Ladakh to address the long-standing, constitutional, and genuine demand of the Gorkhas for creation of Gorkhaland.

Member of Parliament, Gaurav Gogoi was present as a special guest of honour. In his special address, Gogoi spoke about his commitment to continue working on the issue of NRC on other issues facing the Gorkha community. Gaurav Gogoi was felicitated by the Parisangh as "People's Parliamentarian" for his work for the Gorkha community by raising issues pertaining to the community in the Parliament and at other important forums.

Besides Gorkhaland Statehood demand, the National Executive Meet in its Dehradun Declaration resolved to organise the 20th National Council Meet 2020 in Guwahati Assam in February/March 2020 and continue it's in assertion with respect to the NRC in Assam, PRC in Arunachal Pradesh, OBC in J&K, UP, UK , Meghalaya and Mizoram, RIIN in Nagaland, Manipur People's Bill in Manipur and issues of Gorkhas in Scheduled areas across North East.
