Karimganj (Assam), September 9, 2018:

The Karimganj district administration is taking initiatives to thwart ‘Bangladeshi elephants’ from entering India.

The move comes after a herd of elephants entered some bordering villages in Karimganj damaging property.

The administration will close down the elephant corridor located on the India-Bangladesh border by planting lemon trees and ghost chillies (bhoot jolokia).

Over 300 metres of the border in Karimganj district was open for the movement of wild elephant but since these elephants are becoming a threat to people living in bordering areas, the administration has taken the step. Several people over the years were killed by these jumbos and massive areas of farmland were also destroyed by them.
