GUWAHATI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Union agriculture and farmers’ affairs minister Narendra Singh Tomar as the election in-charge of Assam which will go to polls in March-April.

DoNER minister Jitendra Singh has been appointed as the additional in-charge, said party general secretary Arun Singh in a media release today.

BJP which is going to contest the Assembly polls in an alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad and the United People’s Party-Liberal will be aiming to retain power at Dispur.

Setting itself a target of over 100 seats in the 126-member House, the party has been campaigning aggressively with the help of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah. Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has been at the forefront, has apparently adopted the tactic of polarisation politics making communal statements against the minorities almost every day.
