During a panel discussion at the InsideNE Youth Conclave, 2019, Pisharoty stated that, ironically, the BJP had come to power in Assam by blaring the slogans of Jati, Mati, Bheti and to solve the fear of the indigenous. “But what it is doing is increasing the fear of one’s identity”, Pisharoty asserted.

Adding on to that sentiment, Pradyut Borodoloi stated that the BJP seeks to create two worlds -- a smaller world of Muslims, and a world of Hindus -- and seeks to impose the principle of 'Hindutva' or 'Hindu first' throughout the nation.
In reaction to the Assam MP's accusation, Jishnu DevVarma stated that the party is not seeking to divide society, and insinuated that the division was, in fact, created by Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister.
The Tripura Deputy Chief Minister also stated that accusing the BJP of creating a communal, divide was falling prey to 'propaganda' created by the opposition. DevVarma further accused the said that 'vote bank' politics had been played by other parties, and not the BJP.
