Borgohain's personal security officer was also injured in the scuffle.
Talking to newspersons, Borgohain said: "I was there for an election meeting with due permission of the Election Commission of India. As the meeting was going on, some persons rushed in chanting BJP Zindabad, Congress Murdabad and started abusing us. Since we wanted to avoid a confrontation, I just told them to carry on their canvassing and let us do ours. And, as I proceeded to leave the place, they tried to attack me with sticks and sharp-edged weapons. My PSO's intervention saved me. The PSO was injured in the process."
"This is not the first time. They have been trying to attack us wherever we go especially after dusk. They follow us everywhere. This is not fair. Our party was also in power for 15 years. Such incident never happened. I've filed an FIR today and we will take the matter up at the highest level," he added.
