GOLAGHAT: Assam senior minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today took a jibe at Golaghat’s Congress candidate Bitupan Saikia, saying BJP is not a dharamsala (public guest house) to walk out and walk in whimsically.
Addressing an election rally here, attended by BJP candidate Ajanta Neog, Sarma said: “Bitupan Saikia has gone crazy to have switched to Congress when all Congress men are migrating to BJP. It cannot be a decision taken in a normal state of brain ... He also says he will return to BJP after winning from Congress. Is the BJP a dharamsala that anyone can walk out and walk in at his whims and fancies? We won’t accept anybody back once he/she leaves the party.”
He also mocked Saikia saying that the Congress candidate did another “abnormal thing” by riding the same elephant with senior Congress leader Rakibul Hussain on his way to file nomination. “I am told Bitupan Saikia rode the same elephant with Rakibul Hussain. That was another abnormal thing to do ride an elephant when it was already ridden by an elephant. Just imagine what was the condition of the elephant!” Sarma said.

Efforts to contact Saikia proved futile.
The BJP bigwig also promised a subdivision in Merapani in Golaghat district. “Baideo (Sister Ajanta Neog) was requesting me for a subdivision in Merapani. She was doing so because she was running a venture school over the past five years, and now we’ve provincialised her school. She’s now empowered to do declare it herself. It’s going to be done,” Sarma said.
Sarma further assured that Golaghat, which has already witnessed unprecedented development during Neog’s earlier regime as state PWD minister, will get top priority if BJP is voted to power in the state.
