BJP Sets Up Toll-Free Number to Show Support for 'CAA', will Assam Respond?

Guwahati, January 4, 2019:

At a time when protests against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act are raging across Assam, the State BJP President Ranjeet Dass on Saturday has introduced another formula to prove that the people do indeed want the 'CAA'. Dass, during a mega rally in Guwahati, has invited the people of Assam to give missed calls on a toll free number (8866288662) to show their support for the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act.

"We have arranged for a missed call. A missed call to the number will mean support for the 'CAA'. So, I call upon my BJP supporters to whip out their mobile sets and give a missed call to the number. The number is: 8866288662", Dass said.

Lashing out at the rival Congress camp, that is nipping at the heels of the BJP in the wake of the enactment of the CAA, Dass stated,"We are seeing that the Congress has been participating in rallies that are being termed as the Astitva Jana Jagaram Samadal. Why does the Congress feel the need to preserve its astitva?"

Holding the Congress responsible for the age-old problem of illegal foreigners, suspected to be Bangladeshis, in Assam, Dass said, "The Congress PM Rajiv Gandhi set 1971 haphazardly  as the cut-off date, instead of 1951. In 1983, they took part the illegal election and became the enemy of the people. At the time Congress were counted as the enemies of the people, and now they are acting like the allies of the people. I condemn this; the enemy of the people cannot be the friends of the people."

It may be mentioned that the BJP is holding a massive rally of booth presidents and elected representatives at the Veterinary Stadium in Khanapara. The rally is being attended by BJP's working President JP Nadda, who will address a gathering of around 90,000 of the saffron party's supporters in Assam.

The mega-rally has been organized in the midst of nationwide rallies against the amendment of the Citizenship Act. The protests initially began in Assam, where as many as 5 protesters died due to firing by police. After the initial turmoil, the protests have remained largely peaceful, with protests being spearheaded by the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) in every single district of Assam.
