BAKSA: In a sensational incident reported from Lamidara in Assam's Baksa district, a BJP worker was hacked to death with a dagger. The incident, which has come to light merely days after the elections in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) region, has created shockwaves of fear in the region.
The BJP worker in question, Mintu Kalita, was reportedly intercepted yesterday evening while returning to his home and killed near the Lamidara area -- not too far from Mushalpur. Hazarika, who is also a known contractor, was reportedly returning on his scooter when he was attacked by the assailant. Most of the injuries that he suffered were on the head, police have confirmed.
Police were informed about the discovery of Hazarika's dead body around 7 am in the morning today and have reached the site of a brutal murder. "A forensic team has been assigned to analyze the death of the man. We have recovered a kukri's cover, which we suspect to be the murder weapon. He is a contractor, so we will investigate his business dealings. We are also going to conduct a prove into his personal life," an official said, adding that "investigations are currently underway."

Meanwhile, local BJP workers are up in arms against the incident and are demanding "justice" for the deceased. "This is the first time that something like that has occurred since the formation of the BTC Government. We are urging BTC Chief Promod Boro to take action against the culprits," the locals said.
Locals are also suspecting that the deceased, who was a prominent businessman, was killed for money. "We are hesitant to term this as a political conspiracy as by and large, peace has been witnessed in these parts. The dacoity angle cannot be ruled out as the deceased was a local contractor and would often carry large sums of money on his person," a local said.
