BJP’s allies condemn CAB, promise to meet PM and President

Guwahati, January 29, 2019:

The meeting hosted by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma conjointly with Assam’s largest regional party has officially comes to an end.

Meghalaya CM Sangma, while addressing the media, has laid out a blueprint for the eleven parties involved in the meet, many of whom are allied with the BJP’s Northeast Democratic Alliance (NEDA). Sangma laid out a five-course action planned at the meeting meant to derail the Bill at the Rajya Sabha.

Firstly, Sangma said that all the political parties have unanimously decided to oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.

Secondly, Sangma stated that a delegation from the Northeast along with other parties will meet and appraise the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ramnath Kovind regarding the matter.

Thirdly, Sangma warned that if the Government presses ahead with the Bill, they will continue to oppose the Bill and also meet again and chalk up a plan for future course of action.

Fourthly, Sangma thanked all political parties who have supported the cause of opposing the Bill inside and outside Parliament

Fifthly, Sangma announced the formation of a delegation the purpose of which will be to reach out to other parties in the country who would oppose the Bill.

The AGP, NPP, PDF, SPDP, IPFT, JDU (eastern region) are some of the key parties which have attended the meet.
