Guwahati, January 29, 2019:

In a bizarre incident, a 1-year old child has been prohibited from entering the venue where Assam’s Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will lay the foundation stone of the Eri Silk Mill at Behali in Bishwanath Chariali. The reason for this? The child was wearing a black jacket!

“The security personnel did not allow my 1-year-old to enter the venue as he was wearing a black jacket”, lamented the mother of the child.

Ever since the protestors of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill started the trend of waving black flags to protest the senior BJP ministers, the current administration has done their best to stomp the protests by banning black clothes outright! During the Republic Day celebrations held in Guwahati’s Veterinary field, police personnel kept a strict lookout for people who might disturb the peace by wearing or waving black cloth items at the administration.

Scenes from the venue:

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Finance Minister, has come out swinging against the protestors and has even mocked the media for giving coverage to these protests. And yet, BJP officials have been taking steps to ensure that they are not confronted by protestors, as was witnessed last Sunday when a convoy carrying Himanta Biswa Sarma and CM Sonowal was surrounded on all sides by a BJP ‘roadshow’.

The BJP has claimed that the government is not at all bothered by the mass protests in the state, but these actions of the administration present a different picture altogether.
