KOKRAJHAR: Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Promod Boro has opined on the recent exodus of the 'Mahajot' candidates in the lead up to the counting of the Assam Assembly election.
"There is no need to fear. There will be an NDA government. What need is there to go to Dubai? Since they have contested here and are representing the people here -- they should do politics here only. We will reach the magic number and form the government," said the BTC chief on the sidelines of a literary event.
Asked if the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) also has fears of 'horse-trading', Boro said that is not the case as "they are all living in their homes."
Rajya Sabha MP and BJP's Paneri MLA candidate Biswajit Daimary said that "they should be wary if their MLAs are gearing up to switch sides.
"In case of the BPF, for instance, a member of the Council left the party and became an Executive member after joining the party. It is not a matter of horse trading; they left of their own free will. We don't know who will win and who will lose -- that will only become clear on May 2. They are simply seeing ghosts," said Daimary.
On the other hand, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president and agriculture minister Atul Bora today mocked the Congress-led grand alliance of seven parties for some of its allies sending contesting candidates out of the state fearing so-called horse-trading.
“Over the past few days some of the parties are stated to have sent their contesting candidates out of the state just to tarnish the image of the ruling party. It’s quite unfortunate. We don’t believe horse-trading politics,” Bora in an address to the media.
The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) has reportedly shifted eight of its candidates to Chhattisgarh and the All India United Democratic Front has reportedly shifted some of its candidates to Rajasthan over the past few days.
