Kajalgaon, January 28, 2020:

The Bodo leaders Tuesday were given a rousing welcome in Kajalgaon, the district headquaters of the Chirang district of Assam, after their return home in the wake of the signing of the 'Peace Pact'.

Many of the leaders, such as Pramod Bodo (of the All Bodo Students' Union) and Gobinda Basumatary (of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland's Progressive faction).

At the massive celebration, thousands upon thousands came together to celebrate the pact, which gives increased power to the statehood region, and assures the undertaking of a slew of developments by the Government to the people of the region, recently re-named as the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTC).

"We have signed the pact with belief, and we hope that the Governments at the State and Centre, since they have signed a pact after so many discussions and deliberations, will ensure that peace and stability prevails in the region.."

It may be mentioned here that on January 27, nine Bodo groups signed an agreement with the Centre and the Assam government in New Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the new accord marked a “final and comprehensive solution” to the demand of the Bodos, while retaining the territorial integrity of Assam.

The Bodoland area has erupted in joy after the signing of the peace pact between the Bodo organizations and the Government, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi has termed as "historic".
